Robert Higgins Obituary
Weaverville - Robert Collis Higgins, age 83, of Eller Hollow Road, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 27, 2014.
Collis was born May 26, 1931 in Buncombe County where he had lived most of his life. He was a former truck driver and retired from the City of Asheville as a Security Guard. He was also a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War and a member of Mt. Sheba Baptist Church where he served as Deacon since 1969. He was the son of the late John Samuel and Myra Annalee Miller Higgins.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Barbara Browning Higgins; children, Vickie Wilson and husband Sherrill, Debbie Belisle and husband David, Brenda Jarrett, Bobby Higgins and wife Stephanie, and Diane Hensley and husband Brent; grandchildren, Kimberly Hyder, Christine Wilson, Daniel Belisle, Courtney Higgins, Bethany Ann, Molly Wilson, Dillon Belisle, and Emily Higgins; and great granddaughter, Emma Hyder.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2014, in Mt. Sheba Baptist Church, with Rev. Steve Rhinehart and Rev. J.C. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, where his body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to his service.
At other times, the family will be at the residence.
Flowers are welcome.
Those desiring to make a memorial contribution are encouraged to consider: Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220.
