Roland G. R.G. Pottorf

Roland G. R.G. Pottorf, 87, of Topeka, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Midland Hospice House. Roland was born January 29, 1922 in rural Oskaloosa, the son of George W., and Ethel R. Edwards Pottorf. He had lived in Topeka since 1949. He was a 1940 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and attended Arizona State University. He was a U.S. Army-Air Corp Veteran of WWII, serving as a bombardier flight officer from 1941 to 1944. Roland was a welder and maintenance man for 38 years at Goodyear Tire Co. in Topeka, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #62 and Masonic Lodge #14 A.F. & A.M. in Oskaloosa, and was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and Arab Shrine in Topeka. He married Hazel Noreen Brinlee on July 29, 1946 at Wichita. She preceded him in death on June 25, 2000. He is survived by three Sons, Micheal Pottorf, Sumpter, S.C., Rex Pottorf, Silver Lake, and Mark Pottorf, Elmont, one Brother Merle Mike Pottorf, Bonita Springs, FL., 11 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a Daughter, Lois Ilene DeWitt, three Grandchildren, one Great-Grandchild and three Sisters. A Memorial Service and Masonic Service Rites conducted by Oskaloosa Lodge #14 will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Meriden Chapel. Cremation is planned. Inurnment will be private.
