Kenneth Clarence McKay was born Sept. 18, 1922 in New Market, the son of Crumley C. and Clarice M. (Peterman) McKay. He passed away on Sunday morning, Oct. 9 at Westridge Quality Care & Rehab in Clarinda at the age of 94 years and 21 days.
Kenny grew up in New Market and graduated from New Market High School in 1939. He farmed for several years and then went to work driving a truck for various moving companies. On Nov. 23, 1964 he was united in marriage to Lula Mae Rhodes McClelland in Hernando, Mississippi. Kenny was a 68-year member of the Masonic Lodge and was an avid collector of antique tractors. He loved going to sales and taking tractor rides with the Tarkio Valley Antique Tractor Association that he was a member of.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mae in 2007; a step-daugher, Phyllis Geddie; and a step-grandson, Andrew Powles.
Survivors include his two sons, Rodney McKay and his wife Ashley of Denver, Colorado, Rex McKay and his wife Marcia of Clarinda; step children, Steve McClelland and his wife Shirley of Longview, Mississippi, Buddy McClelland and his wife Alice of Starkville, Mississippi, Kathy Guerra and her husband Bob of San Jose, California; step son-in-law, Harold Geddie of Ellisville, Mississippi; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Carroll McKay of New Market; along with other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda with Pastor Russ Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Memory Cemetery near New Market. Visitation with the family present took place on Tuesday evening, Oct. 11 from 5-7 p.m. at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda. A memorial fund is being established in his name.
