Rose F. "Rosie" Shah, age 85 of Clarinda, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at Villas of St. James in Breese, Illinois.
She was born June 26, 1931, in India, the daughter of William and Rachel Joseph.
She married Kanu Vrindavan Shah in India in the early 1950's.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of P.E.O Chapter KH, Clarinda; Beta Sigma Phi Soroity - Eta Epsilon Chapter, Clarinda; original member of the Gourmet Club, Clarinda ; Clarinda Sings; founder of the International Club, Clarinda; and sang in the church choir for 20 to 30 years.
Born in India, she grew up there and attended Goodwill Girls School. She earned a nursing degree in India. She moved to England and lived there for 13 years before moving to the United States in 1970. Settling in Clarinda, where her husband was a psychiatrist and Clinical Director at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute and Clarinda Treatment Complex. She helped the Japanese wives of managers at the Hoover-NSK (now NSK) plant in Clarinda learn about the English language and American culture. She was an avid gardener; well known in the area for her beautiful roses. She was multilingual knowing six different languages.
Survivors include: husband - Dr. Kanu V. Shah, MD, Clarinda; daughter - Kamini R. (John G. Lehman) Shah, ScD, MHS, Pocahontas, Illinois; grandson - Benny Shah Lehman, Pocahontas, Illinois; sister - Rani Williams, Bangalore, India; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law - Sarah, Bindu, Farida, Sudha and Usha; brothers-in-law - Keerti and Anil.
She was preceded in death by: father - Rev. William Joseph; mother - Rachel Joseph; sisters - Evangeline and Helen; brothers - Robin and Tom.
Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Illinois.
Memorial funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at The Villas of St. James in Breese, Illinois, with Cateri Hellige officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shah Memorial Fund/Tempo Bank, Breese, Illinois (donations will be used for The Villas at St. James); the NICU at St. Mary's Hospital, St. Louis; or First United Methodist Church, Clarinda.
