Alice Stallworth Obituary

Dr. Alice Johnston Stallworth, 85, died November 23, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, Columbus. Services are today at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Father James Carlyle officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation begins at 12:30 p.m. prior to the service in the Earline Robertson Room at the church. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Alice Eva Johnston was born on December 30, 1921, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, to Robert Parker Johnston and Nettie Mae Hartung Johnston. She graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor of Music in Voice Pedagogy from the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music. She came to Columbus in 1945 as a faculty member of MSCW teaching voice, piano, and the radio music program. Dr. Stallworth began her second career at MSU by obtaining a Masters in Education and then her Doctorate in Educational Counseling. She returned to MUW as Head of the Counseling and Testing Department until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, First Lieutenant George Samuel Fitch of Rushville, NY in 1945 and Dr. William Lea Stallworth of Columbus, MS in 1970. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Parker Johnston, of Murrysville, PA and her great-grandson, Banks Montague of Ft. Mill, SC
She is survived by: her daughters, Nancy S. Thomas of Houston, Texas, Alice S. Lancaster of Columbus and Clementine S. de Roode of Hunstville, Ala.; sons, Dr. William King Stallworth of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and Dr. John Clement Stallworth of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be William David de Roode, Richard Jeptha Lancaster, William Lea Stallworth, Matthew Brand Parker, Dr. Joe Boggess, Rufus Ward, John R. Davis, and George Hazard Winton.
Memorials may be made to The Altar Guild or The Choir of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 318 College, Columbus, MS 39701.

Teen, You have been such a good friend and I know how hard it is to give up your Mom but she is now with God..and my Grandmother!! and all the pain and suffering that she went thru is over.
