Amy and I met at Sysco - we both moved to the Calera area not long before the facility opened for business.
For several years we interacted back and forth pretty much just for business (and that was almost always done in a fun and pleasant kind of way - Amy's sense of humor was something I enjoyed).
2-3 years ago we somehow got to discussing how much we each enjoyed reading. At first we would stop and talk about how I thought she should read the book I just finished and she would insist that I get a copy of her favorite. Then we started to trade books. It got to where I'd often find a couple of books on my desk in the morning - one being returned and one being left for me to read. And vice-versa as well. It even got to where we trusted each others judgment enough about what we each liked that we would warn each other not to purchase a certain title as if not we would have both purchased the same title. And why do that when we could swap?
We introduced each other to a couple of new authors - Amy led me to a couple of Mississippi writers who've I've come to enjoy quite a lot.
All that was great but what was most enjoyable was when she, for example, had given me a book to read that she had hugely enjoyed. As she couldn't tell me about the ending and plot details ahead of time, she would become impatient for me to finish the book so we could talk about it. And the same was true in reverse. I'd stop in her office and want to know how far she had gotten so we could talk about it. Then finally we'd get to discuss the particular book and what was best and how did you like that part and what about when so and so did such and such.
That was great fun for me - I treasured those times with Amy and I miss them.

Mr and Mrs Rankin, I dont quite know what to say. Even though years would pass between phonecalls, whenever Amy and I would touch base it was as if we were still the little girls that played at your home, hiding from Nancy and bugging Dennis. I am more than shocked and saddened by this news. Please know you all are in my prayers. She was like a sister to me, someone whom I could confide in and always count on for advise. You have all had a special place in my heart, and my family grieves with you.None of us know God's plan for us.Have faith that you will see her again one day.
I love you all.

To the Entire Rankin Family,
I am so very sad and heart broken over the death of precious Amy. Even though I have not seen her in awhile I feel like I have lost an amazing friend. She was loved and admired by everyone that knew and worked with her. She was such a joy in life! I am asking God for extra strength for your family now. We know Amy is at peace and happy now. God will take care of each of you but it will take time. Remember that she was loved by all and no one will ever forget such a remarkable young lady. God Bless you all.
Best, Ginger Mattiace (Jackson)

I didn't know Amy very long or very well but her passing was still more than shocking. I met Amy over a year ago while was visiting Sysco Central Alabama. During my time at Gulf Coast I've enjoyed talking with Amy when she called. She was always full of life and joyful. Such a pleasure to talk to. Amy will be greatly missed not only by her family and friends but also by many at Sysco. Amy has definitely left a mark on this world. For those who know the poem about "The Dash", her "dash" is truly full.

My prayers go out to her family. I was blessed to have known Amy as a co-worker and friend. Amy LOVED her animals and her job. There is so many memories I will hold in my heart of her, but the one I will share with all of you is the time there was a stray cat in Sysco's parking lot for a couple of days and she finally brought a cage and rescued the cat, and I do believe she kept it. Amy will truly be missed and we all shall see her again in heaven. Leisa
