I offer my thoughts and prayers to the entire Gooden family. I have known Mr. Gooden since the 60's. I sang in the Chapel Hill Church Choir under his direction for many years. He was a kind, generous and respectful person who will truly be missed.

My wife, Lynette, and I would like to offer the entire Gooden family our deepest sympathy and to let each of you know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Being in the public housing business myself, I had many occasions through the years to work with Bennie Gooden, and I must say that it was indeed a pleasure each time. It seemed that just being around Mr. Gooden brought the best out of you. I have seen him stop along a sidewalk and speak to his tenants in several complexes I have been in. In each case you could tell from looking in their eyes the respect they showed for him. This mystic was what made Bennie Gooden the respected man he was.

We have been next-door neighbor to Mr. Gooden’s son, Jeffrey and his lovely wife for a good many years now. At first it was just them, but I stopped counting when he brought Bennie a 3rd or 4th beautiful grandchild from his branch of the family tree. Never could anyone ask better neighbors. It is quite evident that he is his father’s son.

This is a sad time for the Gooden family, losing their beloved patriarch. On the same note it is a happy time, a celebratory time, as Mr. Gooden left his pain and suffering behind to go to a much better place where there is no pain, no suffering, and no prejudices. How blessed he is to be able to spend eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. When he left this world behind, he left it a better place for us to live because of him and his many years of dedication of helping others. Bennie Gooden made a difference. May God look over and protect the Gooden family during this special time.
