Hattiesburg, Ms

Bob E. Mixon was born June 2, 1944 in Pascagoula, Mississippi and was a graduate of Poplarville High School . He called Hattiesburg, Mississippi home after his enrollment in the University of Southern Mississippi in 1962. He received his B.A. degree and went to work with First National Bank. He married the former Judith Caroline Ryan in May of 1971. Bob left the bank and became General Manager of Courtesy Ford . He eventually became CEO of Courtesy Ford in Hattiesburg, Ryan Supply Company & Specialized Factory Warehouse in Jackson, Mississippi; Centennial Imports in Pensacola, Florida; and Centennial Management and Investment in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Bob enlisted in the Mississippi National Guard in 1963 and was commissioned as Second Lieutenant, Transportation Corporation in 1965, serving for 14 years.

Bob was a born leader and served on boards for Deposit Guaranty National Bank, BancorpSouth, Hattiesburg Auto Dealers Association, Mississippi Auto Dealers Association, Mississippi Motor Vehicle Commission, Hattiesburg Kiwanis Club and Hattiesburg Area Development Partenership. He was selected as Mississippi's Quality Dealer in 1979, Time Magazine Quality Dealer in 1980, He also was chosen as Hattiesburg's Outstanding Young Man in 1977.

Bob was a former deacon of First Baptist Church of Hattiesburg and a member of Temple Baptist Church of Hattieburg, MS.

Bob was an avid USM and Golden Eagle fan and supporter. He was a charter member of the University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Hall of Fame in 1987. He also served as the founding president of the University of Southern Mississippi Athletic Foundation, served as president of the USM Alumni Association and Eagle Club.

In Bob's personal life, he loved to hunt and was a member of "Dixie Brake Hunting Club" in Sidon, Mississippi . His perfect year was USM Football in the fall, a winter of hunting in the Delta and spring in Orange Beach, Alabama and summers in the cool air and God's beauty in Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Mixon.He is survived by his devoted wife Judith Ryan Mixon and also by his mother Marjorie Alford Mixon , and brother Darryl Lee Mixon , both of Houston , TX; his children, James Lee Woodruff and wife, Nancy of Todd, NC , Sara Woodruff Engle and husband, Stuart, of Matthews, NC , Ryan Woodruff Whitehead, and husband Wesley, of Madison, MS, and Todd Howie Mixon, and wife Nina , of Sumrall , MS, and his precious 11 grandchildren.

Mr. Bob and Ms. Judy were 2 of our most favorite customers here at the Ironong Board. We never saw one without the other. Mr. Bob was so much in love with his wife and talked all the time about her and his chilren. He will surely be missed by many.
