Dan Fairly Obituary

Dan Fairly

Brandon

Daniel Hendrick "Dan" Fairly passed away Friday afternoon, April 3rd, 2015. He is survived by Jennifer Jones Fairly, his wife of thirty-six years, his son Daniel Hendrick Fairly, Jr. (Stefanie Fairly), his daughter, Christina Fairly Burrage (Ryan Burrage), a grandson, Knox McClain Fairly, a granddaughter, Jane Graham Fairly, and his brother Ken Fairly (Becky Fairly), nephews and nieces Graham Fairly, Rebecca Fairly Blakeney, and Anna Fairly, Chad and Matthew Waldrop, Taylor Greenhill and Cathrine Jones.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Wise Fairly and his mother Clariece Graham Fairly.

Dan was born in Jackson, Mississippi on October 26, 1956 in Jackson, MS and lived in Jackson and then Rankin County his entire life. He attended Jackson Prep, graduated from Belhaven College in 1978 and Ole Miss Law School in 1981. For years, he was a partner with Wells, Marble and Hurst, in Jackson, MS, a firm filled with men he dearly loved and respected. His last years were spent in Chancery Court of Rankin County, where new friendships were built and old ones renewed. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, MS and then Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Brandon, MS, where he served for many years.

While we deeply mourn his untimely passing and search for understanding, we are thanking God for what his life meant to us. He gave us all he had. He was a wonderful provider, a loyal big brother, a deeply loving father and husband who raised his children up to be followers of Jesus. He was fierce in his love and protection of his family and friends. For all those whom his passion and kindness touched, we are grateful. He loved helping others. No matter how you came to know him, he left a mark on you in some way. His life was marked indelibly by the person of Jesus Christ and he trusted him fully even when he could not trust himself. Dan always fell at the feet of His Savior, Our Lord Jesus, in whom is our hope and salvation now and forevermore. Dan shared his faith and trust in Jesus Christ with many, many people, and if there was ever a man who trusted his soul to Christ rather than men or himself, it was Dan. He knew what was in the heart of man and he grieved over the sin that enslaves human hearts and separates us from the God of the universe. But thanks be to God for the reconciliation He has provided in the person of Jesus.

Dan wore many hats, almost too many to name: Lawyer, judge, elder, baseball coach, hunter, daddy, papa, lay evangelist, Sunday School teacher, preacher of many funerals and weddings. He was a man of great emotion, tenacity, and humor. He was a talented and impressive man in so many respects, a man who knew how to get things taken care of. His life was filled, mostly, by so much joy and happiness. Words cannot express how deeply he will be missed by us and all those around him. He leaves a void in our hearts that cannot be filled.

Dan died on Good Friday. It was his sin, mine, and yours that drove Our Lord Jesus to bare his cross in agony and defeat, as darkness fell upon Golgotha and the Father placed upon His Son the iniquity of us all. And He will raise us up on the Last Day. We know this because He has raised His Son, and He sits at the right hand of God the Father, making intercession for those who cannot save themselves and oh how grateful we are for the blood, the resurrection, and the life everlasting. He is Risen. He is Risen indeed. This is what Dan would have wanted you to know and where this family puts its trust and hope. In this, he never wavered.

A private graveside service will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015 followed by an 11:00 am memorial service at Lakeside Presbyterian Church.

I have only positive thoughts of Judge, Dan Fairly. He helped our family members tremendously during a situation that was difficult, but necessary. When we had no strength, he was the hands of a decision we were on the fence about. May you rise and rest in piece, Judge. You're work for our family was most successful.

Prayers to the family and friends of the man whom I respect and will never forget.

As one of many attorneys who appeared before Judge Fairly over the past five or so years, I butted heads with him on many of my cases and did not always understand or agree with his rulings.
But I always respected him and respected his decisions and I believe he tried to be the best judge he could be. The legal profession is in deep mourning over losing you, Judge Fairly. We will never forget you. May you rest in peace, and may peace be with your precious family.

I met Dan in 2008 under stressful family circumstances. He put my heart at rest with his direct & honest words of wisdom, renewing my faith in the justice system. His love & belief in the Lord were obvious. Rankin County is a better place thru Dan's work there. Unfortunately, he is gone too soon. I will never forget what he did for my family. I expressed my appreciation the few times our paths crossed, either with a handshake or just a nod & a smile. The Fairly family will be forever in my prayers!

I will always remeber the summer afternoons on the pitchers mound in the Fairly's backyard. My father had just passed away and the entire family was a solid influence on me in those years. Dan had a great fastball! I was sad to read about Dan's passing, but happy to read about his faith in our Savior and I know that he is with him now! My prayers are with all of you!

I only got the pleasure to meet Judge Fairly one time and that was two years ago. He was so orderly and kind, fair and respectful. It is quite an honor to say, "I got to meet such a man with such dignitiy and complete fairness."
His character was second to none. May his children follow in his footsteps.

Dan and I first met at the Jackson Police academy in March of 1975. Along with others we were hired as Police cadets and spent two weeks in the academy before they turned us loose upon the public of Jackson. That was 40 years ago this last March 10, 2015. Dan was a true friend and provided Christian guidance for me in my life when I needed help. I will forever be grateful. Ricky Davis
