Belzoni

Dorothy Reed Doyle, 89, died September 30, 2012 at her home in Belzoni, Mississippi of natural causes. Visitation will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church Parish House in Belzoni at 1:00, followed by her funeral at St. Thomas Episcopal Church beginning at 2:00. Graveside services will follow at Belzoni Cemetery.

Dorothy was born and raised in Silver City, MS. She graduated from Silver City High School and attended Stephens College and Millsaps College. She moved to Belzoni after her marriage and lived in the same home there her entire life.

Dorothy was an extraordinary woman. She was a prolific reader, talented conversationalist, and wonderful story teller. She nurtured and sparked the imaginations of her three children, her two grandchildren, those she taught at St. Thomas Episcopal Church Sunday school, her children's friends, and all that had the good fortune to encounter her. She was an avid gardener and mentor to many who helped with her beautiful landscape. She loved to share her outdoor surroundings with others and the multitude of wildlife that was attracted there.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred Hairston and Maurice Thompson Reed; brother, Maurice Thompson Reed, Jr., and daughter "Dootsie" Dorothy Hairston Doyle.

Dorothy is survived by her sister, Mildred Reed Gordon of Falls Church, VA; son, Robert Reed Doyle (Becky) of Belzoni; daughter, "BaBa" Mariella Hairston Doyle of Ridgeland; and granddaughters, Kelly Jane Doyle of Boston, MA, and Dorothy Elizabeth Doyle of Ashville, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 401, Belzoni, MS 39038.
