Ernestine C. Wertz, 85, died December 19, 2016 surrounded by family.
The daughter of John Louis Carpenter and Lizzie Collins Carpenter, Ernestine was born in Yazoo, MS in 1931. Ernestine spent her life fueled by the unconditional love of her Savior Jesus Christ and committed herself to a lifetime of service in His Name.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Jack L. Wertz. The two met in Jackson in 1949 as Jack worked as a bellhop at the King Edward Hotel and she at the newly established Krystal's on County Line Rd. Brushing aside his initial flirtations, Ernestine only agreed to join Jack on a date after he promised to embody the righteous man they both deserved. She had a knack for pulling God's greatness out of people. Together they spent the next 61 years in holy union spreading the same absolute love for others that they shared with each. Ernestine was fond of saying how she preferred seeing sermons over hearing them. Her life was an affirmation of this and nothing short of a living sermon for all to witness. Both in her life and in her wake one may glimpse the essence of God.
Ernestine is survived by her brother John Carpenter, daughters Sandra Harvey, Angela Sund and Mona Powell and grandchildren Reuben Harvey, Tiffany Gore, Brock Sund, Jake Sund, Bree Powell and Brittany Lecun.
You may pay respects during visitation hours at 10am at Colonial Heights Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at the church at 11am with Rev. Brock Sund officiating.

Angie, Your Mom was always such a sweet woman. She would always give me a big hug when we happened to run into each other, even after we no longer worked together. She was always so proud of her daughters. Praying for you & your family. Bert & I now live in Longview, TX near our daughter. Carole Kemp
