Flora Bishop Obituary

Flora Harris Bishop, age 88, of Ridgeland died Tuesday, December 8, 2009, in Jackson.
As the sole daughter of the late Luther & Maggie Ruff Harris, she was readied for life with six brothers. Her life took her from rural beginnings in Plantersville to seeing the entire world. From Alaska to China, from the Netherlands to Italy, she traveled extensively throughout her life, visiting with people and spreading her family history and story. Often opinionated and devoutly Baptist she would let you know exactly what she thought on a variety of subjects. Wise beyond her years and toughened by time, she gave endlessly to those she held dear. She will be greatly missed by many.
She was a longtime member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Ridgecrest held an immense place in her heart and she loved every minute spent involved with her church and its people.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm Thursday, December 10, 2009, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Madison with a service to follow at 7 pm. There will be a visitation from 12:00-2:00pm Friday, December 11, 2009, at Unity Presbyterian Church in Plantersville with a memorial service at 2:00. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Joe Thomas, Bill, Luther Jr., and Rex.
She is survived by her brothers, Max Harris of Tupelo, MS and George Harris of Brandon, MS; her daughter, Lauranne and husband, Darrell Gillet of Idyllwild, CA; her son, Burns and his wife, Karen Bishop of Madison, MS. She has five grandchildren: Evanne Marshall of Marietta, Ga, Beau and his wife, Kimberly Bishop of Brandon, MS, Cohry and his wife, Liz Osborn of Temple City, CA, Johnathan Bishop of Oxford, MS and Joshua Bishop of Jackson, MS. She also enjoyed her four great-grandsons.
