Isolde Arnold Obituary

Isolde Reuter Arnold

Vienna, Austria

With heavy hearts we wish to share from overseas that Mrs. Isolde Reuter Arnold passed away peacefully in Vienna, Austria on November 4, 2016. Viennese by birth, she spent many years of her life in the United States, first in New York City and later as a resident of Clinton, Mississippi from 1963 to 1983, with her husband Dr. Godfrey E. Arnold, Chief of Otolaryngology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Mrs. Arnold studied art history at the University of Vienna and music at the Vienna Musikakademie. She began her singing career as a lyric soprano in Vienna where she appeared in operettas and film in the late 1940's. In the 1950's she was engaged as an opera singer at the Flensburg Opera and the Staatsoper in Munich. In the 1960's, after moving to Mississippi, she gave a series of concerts in association with the Mississippi Opera Guild and other organizations, always accompanied by her husband, Dr. Arnold, who in addition to his international medical career, was also a graduate of Vienna's Musikakademie and was an accomplished pianist.

The couple resided at Miranda Hall outside of Clinton, where they were known to open their home for charitable events, sharing Austrian culture and cuisine with Mississippi friends.

Mrs. Arnold was predeceased by her husband, Godfrey, and is survived by her daughter, Claudia, her son-in-law, Holger; and her three grandsons, Jake, Luke and Tassilo Ziegeler.

A requiem mass will be celebrated on Friday November 18, 2016 at Pfarrkirche Grinzing, in the Viennese suburb of Grinzing, her last residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Horbiger-Organ Restoration Pfarre Grinzing, Himmelstrasse 25, 1190 Vienna/Austria.
