John Hugh Rhoden, 78, of Laurel, MS died Monday, June 08, 2015 at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, MS , 21 years to the day his son Jeffery passed from this world. He was born October 21, 1936 in Columbia, MS.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 12, 2015 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Sharon in Laurel, MS. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Laurel. Rev.Scott Stringer will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel in charge of arrangements. (601)649-3342

Mr. Rhoden proudly served 22 years in the Mississippi Air National Guard out of Meridian with the 186th Air Refueling Wing. He retired as a Master Sargent. He was a long time member and deacon of First Baptist of Sharon. He served as a Gideon speaker since 2002 and also a 30 year member of the Laurel Lions Club where he held the offices of President and Secretary. He worked at Commercial National Bank in Laurel and retired from Trustmark Bank in Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Wiley Rhoden Sr. and Nora W. Rhoden, a son, Jeffery Warren Rhoden, brothers; George W Rhoden of Laurel and Arny Rhoden of Columbia and a sister, Ann Sauls of Laurel.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Cynthia Rhoden of Laurel, MS, and a son, John Wallace Rhoden of Sharon.

Pallbearers will be: Don Stewart (Dipstick), Ricky Adams, Wallace Elkins Jr, Charles Boone, Thomas Prine, Lewis Goins, Johnny Burnette, Charles Shoemake.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel (4593 Indian Springs Road, Laurel ) and also from 12:00 noon until service time at 1:00 PM, Friday at First Baptist Sharon (4375 Sharon Road, Laurel).
