Larry Grantham Obituary
Crystal Springs
Larry Grantham, our precious husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, all-time favorite Ole Miss Rebel, and New York Jet won the ultimate victory of all, Saturday June 17, 2017. A visitation and life celebration reception will be 5p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday June 20, 2017 at Stringer Funeral Home, Crystal Springs. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 11a.m. at First Baptist Church, Crystal Springs. Interment will follow the service at Crystal Springs City Cemetery.
Larry was born September 16, 1938 in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. He graduated from Crystal Springs High School and attended the University of Mississippi. Larry was a football champion at all levels: Crystal Springs High School, South Little Dixie; Ole Miss, SEC; and New York Jets, NFL, Super Bowl III Champions. College highlights and honors included: All SEC, SEC Team (1959) of the Decade, and Ole Miss Team of the Century. Larry played professional football for 13 years and was honored to be a part of the Super Bowl III Champion team 1969; Jets MVP 1970; and served as AFL Players Association Representative for 10 years. In 1980, Larry was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. Larry was most recently selected and inducted in the prestigious New York Jets Ring of Honor in 2011.
Larry found great joy in spending time with family and friends. Most importantly, his faith, passion, and spiritual health was fulfilled in helping others through his work with the Freedom House and he was recognized by having one named in his honor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Cornelius Grantham and Mable Julia Whittington, and brother Ronald Grantham. He is survived by wife Peggy Carlin Grantham; daughter LeAnne (Rick) Williams; son Jamie (June) Grantham; stepdaughter Angie (Phil) White. Also survived by grandchildren Craig Grantham, Pat (Lyndse) Williams, Josh (Pam) White, Cris Grantham, Lacey (Ben) Whittington, Anna (Chuck) Robbins, Kayla Grantham, and Trey (Michelle) Grantham. He is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Ady Williams and Harper Whittington. Also survived by sisters, Carlene (Lynn) Ainsworth, Jean Lingle, Ann Greer, and brother Carey (Clara) Grantham along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Being a Jets season ticket holder at Giants Stadium in the the Meadowlands. I took my 6 year old son Ryan to the games and we had the opportunity to meet Larry Grantham in the parking lot. Larry pulled my little guy out of the crowd and signed his Jet's cap and showed him his Superbowl Ring. It was a moment that we'll never forget. So Sorry for Your Loss, he was a Great Person.

I just found out of Larry's passing he was a fantastic man I just learned of his passing he and I work together when I was at Apple computer and I got to meet him personally in Chicago back in the 90s he presented me with a picture of every living jet that was in the 1960s and even got weeb ewbank to sign it when he was in the hospital not doing well thank you Larry rest in peace my friend you will be missed

Mr. Grantham was there from the beginning of the AFL, with The Titans (later known as The Jets), and he played with distinction into the post-merger era. His coach on the field smarts, tenacity, and toughness, made up for his height and weight disadvantage at the Linebacking position.
AFL and Titans/Jets icon, a well-respected teammate and opponent, and well-deserved member of his team's Ring of Honor.
