Byram

Larry Manning Hughes, age 72; went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at First Baptist church of Byram. Visitation will precede the service Sunday, October 20, 2013 beginning at 1:00PM until the 2:00 service with interment to follow at the church cemetery.

Mr. Hughes was born in Magee, MS on September 23, 1941. He grew up in Jackson, MS and graduated from Central High School. He briefly attended Hinds Junior College before going on to join the United States Air Force from September 1, 1961 until August 31, 1965 where he was stationed at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA. Upon exit he attended Mississippi State University where he became a lifelong fan. Mr. Hughes went on to retire from the MS Department of Employment Security after 21 years. He was a devoted husband and father and an active member of First Baptist Church of Byram where he served as Deacon.

He was preceded in death by his Mother, Cleo Lee Shows and his Step-Father, Wallace Waldo Shows. He is survived by his wife, Helen and his son Johnny (Emily); sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beth and Jerry Huskey; nephews Philip (Joyce), Brian (Tara) and Scott Huskey and 3 great nieces and 1 great nephew.

I grew up with Larry on Bailey Avenue. We spent a lot of time playing sports at Jacee Park. We attended the same schools through the 12th grade. It is sad to see he left us so soon. My prayers are with all his family and friends.
