Marion Atkinson Obituary

Marion Wayne Atkinson

Brandon - Marion Wayne Atkinson, 78, passed away peacefully at home January 5, 2018, due to various health issues.

Funeral services will be January 9, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Crossgates United Methodist Church in Brandon. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to the service. Rev. Chris Cumbest, Rev. John Moore and Rev. Tom Sorrell will officiate.

Mr. Atkinson was born in White Lake, North Carolina. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1961 with a degree in Civil Engineering. A resident of Brandon since 1972, he was a charter member of Crossgates United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees. Wayne was an Assistant Scout Master with Boy Scouts of America Troop 229 and an avid bass fisherman. He was a federal government employee his entire career, retiring after 41 years with the Federal Aviation Administration.

Wayne was preceeded in death by his parents, Guy and Mable Atkinson, his brother, Stanley Atkinson and two granddaughters, Annabelle Leigh Atkinson and Raegan Dare Barnhart.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Harwood Atkinson, son Eric (Donna) Atkinson, daughter Krista (Brent) Atkinson Barnhart, brother, Jerry Atkinson, sister, Kathy Atkinson and four grandchildren, Willa Dare, Eric Hayes and Annabelle Louise Atkinson and Mary Ellis Barnhart.

Memorials may be made to Gallant Heart Guide Dog Center, 131 Red Fox Lane, Madison, MS 39110, 601-853-6996.
