Olivia "Libby" Mounger Roland

Libby Mounger Roland joined the Lord on May 21, 2014.

Libby was born on August 24, 1931, the daughter of William M. and Veronica R. Mounger.

She grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, attending Power Elementary, Bailey Jr. High, and Central High School, graduating in 1949.

She attended Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University her freshman year and then transferred to the University of Mississippi, graduating in 1952 with a double major in French and Music.

While at Ole Miss, she sang in musical productions, as well as singing in many friends' weddings. Also while at Ole Miss, she was a member of several scholastic and music societies. During her college years, she travelled extensively in Europe, which was one of the greatest joys of her life.

She was a member of Tri Delta sorority and The Debutante Club of Mississippi.

Following graduation from college, she taught elementary school music at St. Andrew's Episcopal School. Later she worked in the trust department at Deposit Guaranty Bank.

Libby is survived by her three children, James Sessions Roland III (Kathryn), Olivia Roland Malone (Cornell), and Dr. Malcolm Mounger Sawyers Roland (Leah); six grandchildren, Elizabeth Roland, Jay Roland, Charlotte Roland, Jenna Roland, Eli Roland, and Ava Rose Roland; two brothers, William D. "Billy" Mounger and Henry H. Mounger; sister, Veronica Mounger Ross; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and one great great niece.

Her sister, Marjorie Mounger Nevels, predeceased her, as well as her parents and niece Katherine Veronica Mounger Ross.

Funeral services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 3:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 2:00 p.m.

Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Billy Mounger, Henry Mounger, Jr., Bobby Mounger, David Ross, Jr., Stewart Ross, and close friend, Jon Pruse.

Honorary Pallbearers are nephews Bob Nevels of Ridgeland, Mississippi, and Gray Mounger of Los Angeles, California.

The family would like to thank Katherine Rodden, Joanna Jones, and many of the individuals at The Arbor, especially Emma and Lula, for the numerous years of loving as her caregivers.
