Raymond Stratton Obituary

Dr. Raymond Leroy Stratton, 78, a Dentist, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at University Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation is Saturday, 4:00-5:00 p.m. at Boone-Card Funeral Home in Indianola. Funeral services are 5:00 p.m. Saturday at Boone-Card Funeral Home in Indianola with burial in the Indianola Memorial Gardens. Boone-Card Funeral Home in Indianola is handling the arrangements.
Dr. Stratton was born in Belzoni on November 2, 1928 to Lucien Moore and Irene Wesly Stratton. He graduated from Rolling Fork High School where he played basketball and later coached. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and after his discharge he attended dental school and graduated in 1955. He then set up his practice in Indianola and was still practicing at the time of his death. Dr. Stratton was involved in numerous charitable organizations and was an active member of the community. He was a member of the Greenville Elks Club, the Indianola Rotary Club and the VFW. He was also a member of the National Dental Society. He was an avid fan of basketball, golf and hunting.
Survivors include: his wife, Helen Pugh Stratton of Greenville; six daughters, Sharron Stratton Dobbins and husband Gains of San Francisco, CA, Teresa Stratton Fountain of Jackson, Dr. Kris Stratton Mahaffey and husband Mike of Vestavia Hills, AL, Minda Stratton Higginbotham of Baton Rouge, LA, Kaely Stratton Pitchford and husband Matt of Alexandria, LA and Lara Riley Stratton of Eureka, CA; a son, Raymond Leroy Stratton, Jr. and wife Janet of Tupelo; two stepsons, Danny G. Matthews and wife Sherry of Pontotoc and Mark D. Matthews and wife Debbie of Pocahontas, TN; a brother, Lucien Moore Stratton, Jr. of Meridian, Idaho; four sisters, Eloise Stratton Walker and husband Hugh of Cleveland, Anita Stratton Graham and husband Carney of Senatobia, Virginia Stratton Hovis of Huntington Beach, CA and Ann Wells Dale of Branson, MO; former wife, Joyce K. Stratton of Tupelo and fifteen grandchildren.
