Richard Sebren Obituary

On Tuesday the 5th of January, 2010, Ray Sebren, 82, passed away suddenly at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS.
He was a Christian and was a member of Harrisville United Methodist Church, he always took a active part as long as he was able to. He was always willing to help someone who was in real need. He loved to be around people and talk to them. He worked several or more years as a Lineman, many of the structures that he built or help build are still in use today. He loved to tell the stories of his Highline experiences. In 1960 he took over, from his Daddy, Sebren's Store which he operated until the early 1970's when he built two chicken houses which he sold in 1978. He again took up electrical work working at Grand Gulf, Saint Francis, LA, on the Gulf Coast and his last job was building a sub-station at McAdams, MS. It was during this job he had to retire due to heart trouble. He never met a stranger and never failed to get a smile or a laugh from them. He was a fair and honest in his dealings with people and often would help them anonymously. He was also a member of Harrisville Masonic Lodge #336, a member of IBEW Local 605, and a member of American legion Post 79, Wesson, MS.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Sebren; his parents, Oscar and Annie Bell Sebren; brothers, Sidney Sebren, Earl Sebren, and Vernon Sebren; and sisters, Esther McLeod and Bertha Quinn.
He is survived by two sons, Rev. Richard R. Sebren, Jr. (Brenda) and Sidney Donald Sebren, (Celesta) of Harrisville; one sister, Maggie Ruth McKee of Florence; four grandchildren, Tara, Ray III (Meghann), Will and Gabe Sebren all of Harrisville; two great-granddaughters, Loralye Rae and Annalei Grace Sebren of Harrisville and several nieces and nephews.
Anyone wanting to give a memorial in his name please send it to Harrisville United Methodist Church, Harrisville, MS or you local Chapter of the American Heart Association.
Visitation is today from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel in Mendenhall, MS. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2010, at Harrisville Methodist Church in Harrisville, MS with burial in the Harrisville Cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home (601) 847-1733 in Mendenhall, MS is handling the arrangements.

If you met Ray Sebren on the street and you did not leave with a smile on your face then you were not listening. Mrs. Mary has waited a long time for him. We will truly miss this treasure of the Harrisville community.
