Robert Busick Obituary

Robert Nicholas "Nick" Busick

Brandon

Robert Nicholas Busick, 74, died Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, at Brandon Baptist Church with Dr. Clarence Cooper and Rev. Farley Earnest officiating. Burial will be at Brandon Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Brandon Baptist Church prior to the service.

A native and lifelong resident of Brandon, "Nick" was born in Brandon, February 20, 1941, the son of the late, Robert Richardson Busick, Jr. and Mildred Bounds Busick. After high school graduation, he attended Hinds Jr. College before enlisting and serving in the U.S. army.

One of his greatest loves was the game of baseball. While stationed in Boston, Massachusetts, he was able to attend many Boston Red Socks games and remained a loyal fan of that team for many years. One of his childhood dreams was to be a professional umpire. He was also an avid fisherman. He spent many happy hours on the lake fishing with the many friends who shared his love for the sport.

After his military service, he returned to Brandon where he was employed with Marquette Cement Company. He worked there until he went into partnership with his father at the family business, Busick & Son, Inc. When the business expanded in 1977, he opened a western store called The Hitching Post, selling all types of western wear. After the death of his father, he reclaimed the original store location and name of Busick & Son, which he ran until his death. His gregarious personality and friendly nature, along with his kindness and generosity, endeared him to his many friends and patrons.

Mr. Busick was a charter member of Brandon Baptist Church and a former member of First Baptist Church of Brandon, where he served as an ordained deacon, Sunday school teacher and RA leader. He regularly attended church and Sunday school as long as his health permitted.

He is survived by his wife, Marion Davidson Busick; one daughter, Shannon Bailey; one son, Brett Busick and his wife, Lori; stepson, Michael Milam; three grandchildren, Nicholas Cody Bishop, Alexis Bryan Bailey, and Trent Milam; one sister, Carol Busick Swilley and her husband, Billy Foxx; one nephew, Jeff Swilley and his wife, Dana; two nieces, Jan Swilley Boykin and her husband, Howard and Stephanie Swilley; two great nieces, Brittany Boykin Mann and her husband, Andrew and Anna Claire Boykin; one nephew, Tyler Boykin and his wife, Brittany; and one great, great niece, Pierson Claire Boykin.

Pallbearers are: Cody Bishop, Trent Milam, Jeff Swilley, Howard Boykin, Tyler Boykin, Steve Cappello, Ryan McNeill, Joe Busick, and Robert Lee Johnston. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Max Gilliland Sunday School Class; members of the Pearl River Bass Fishing Club; members of the BHS Class of 1959, Jimmy Johnston, Tom Winstead, Harry Strohm, and John Arthur Couch.

June 26, 2015

I will miss you so much Nick, you are good sweet spiritual man and you touched my life in many ways and well as my co-workers at Justin Boot Co. 32 years of speaking to you and hearing about the love for your family and friends and the lord, this will be an enormous void for me. I will forever think of you.
