Robert A. "Robbie" Webb of Madison passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012, at The Nichols Center in Madison after an extended illness. Mr. Webb was born August 11, 1939, to Charles and Lillian Webb in Gulfport, Ms.

Mr. Webb graduated from Gulfport High School in 1957 and from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1961. He won the State Junior Golf tournament in 1953 at the age of 14 and the State Open in 1968. Mr. Webb was head golf professional, groundskeeper, and manager of Canton Country Club from 1963 to 1978 and from 1988 until his retirement on December 1, 2006. From 1978 to 1988 he was the head golf professional at Deerfield Country Club.

Mr. Webb became a member of the PGA in 1965. He was also a longtime member of the MPGA and served as president, secretary, and treasurer. He was a member of the Mississippi Cup Team in 1967 and 1970. Mr. Webb was named Gulf States Section Pro of the year in 1970 and 1984. He was inducted into the USM sports Hall of Fame in 1976.

Mr. Webb was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Lillian Webb. He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Maxine Webb; brothers, Jerry Webb (Bee) of Atlanta; and Charles Webb, Jr. (Dot) of Gulfport; children Robin Tonos (Edward), Rosie Smith (Greg), and Valerie Henry of Madison, Rob Webb, Jr. (Noel) of Canton; and Kevin Webb and his fiancée, Meredith Elwell of Memphis. Mr. Webb is also survived by his grandchildren, Kathryn Rose Smith, Jordan Henry, Webb Henry, Mollie Smith, Lauren Tonos, Stuart Smith, Robbie Tonos, and Mary Breiten Webb.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to The Nichols Center staff for the care they provided and a special thanks to longtime friend and physician, Dr. Sam Peeples.

Visitation will be held at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton from 5-7p.m., Friday, August 3, 2012. Services are scheduled for noon Saturday, August 4, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canton. Pallbearers will be Leigh Brannan, Marvin Gray, Joe Iupe, Jr., Ken Lindsay, William Earl Morgan, Ben Nelson, Kyle Sisk, and Randy Watkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Mac Thompson and Wilbert Williams.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Mississippi Golf Association Juniors, 400 Clubhouse Drive, Jackson, MS 39208 or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 238 E Center St., Canton, MS 39046.

I had the distinct honor of playing my bagpipes today at the country club in Canton for Mr. Webb's memorial. I played Amazing Grace after the golfers performed a unique 21-golf ball salute to this fine man. He was truly loved and admired by so many and he will be missed. I am humbled by the honor to play for his memory.

It was a pleasure to have spent time and get to know Mr. Webb. My sons interest in golf all started because of him. Our family will have memories to last a lifetime.

I had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Webb for about 16 years, as I was college roommates with his youngest son, Kevin. He was a great man and will truly be missed. My wife and I extend our condolences to Maxine and the Webb family. They will remain in our thoughts during this most difficult time.

I want the whole family to know that Robbie, or "Webb" as I called him was a great man and a wonderful leader. I worked for the Country Club for many years and when u thought of the Club he was the first person to come to my mind. I will miss him , but feel confident that he is at rest with his master and suffers no more. I love u "Webb".
