Venus Ora Kennedy Taylor Snowden, 83, joined her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 7, 2013. She passed away at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be 5-8pm Friday December 13, 2013, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Services are 2pm Saturday, December 14, 2013, in the chapel of the funeral home and visitation will also begin at 12 noon prior. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.

Venus Kennedy was born and the youngest of eight, in Memphis, TN on July 13, 1930, to the late Luke Hammond Kennedy and Violar Fox Kennedy. She married Arthur Earl Taylor and they were co- owners and operators of Taylor Shoes and shortly after they acquired the Pearl Plaza Shopping Center in the Heart of Pearl. After the death of her husband, she became the sole proprietor of the commercial property management.

In addition to Pearl Plaza and Taylor Shoes, she also operated Taylor Jeans and Angels and More, and was a member of the Pearl Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Snowden was very involved with community ministries, such as the Singles Group, Widows Ministries, Praise & Worship Center, In-Home Bible Studies, Ladies Night Out, former member of the Red Hat Society.

Mrs. Snowden was a member of River of Life Assembly of God in Brandon and very active in the Assembly of God and Church of God communities. Venus enjoyed taking bus tours, she was a free spirit that loved life and was very active in her daily routine until her sudden and unexpected death.

Survivors include her son, Gerone Taylor (Jan Ellington); daughter, LaTrelle Taylor Donovan (Tommy); sister, Loraine Kennedy Glover; brother, John Otis Kennedy; 5 grandchildren, Danette Taylor Lindsey (Stephen), Russell Hawkins, Joseph Donovan (Deborah); Jordan Donovan, James Donovan; 3 great grandchildren, Taylor Lindsey, Carson Lindsey and Caroline Donovan; step children, Stan Snowden (Vicki), Susan Snowden, Stacey Snowden Martin(Ric), and Sheree Snowden Creason; and several step grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Luke Hammond and Violar Fox Kennedy; her first love and father to her children, Arthur Earl Taylor, her second husband, Chuck Snowden; siblings, Aaron Kennedy, Rev. Maron "M.H." Kennedy, Rev. Hazel Kennedy Wright, Claudie Kennedy and Jamie Kennedy.

I was bless to have known Venus. She had the most beautiful smile and was always kind to everyone. She will be missed by all, but received by our Lord Savior in heaven.
