Zeno Crump Obituary

Zeno Crump, Jr. was born May 22, 1951 to Zeano Crump, Sr. and Thelma Smith Crump in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Visitation will be Friday, June 22, 2007 from 1 - 7 pm at Lakeover Funeral Home and Saturday, June 23, 2007 from 10 - 11 am at Anderson United Methodist Church before the 11 am Funeral Services. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He confessed Christ at an early age and united with Crump Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church.
Zeno attended Eva Harris High School and Jackson State University. He was a faithful member of Anderson United Methodist Church.
Zeno was a 27-year veteran of the Jackson, Mississippi Fire Department. Zeno loved his job and his fellow firefighters. There was 'no other job'! He retired in 2002 as District Fire Chief.
He was married to Carolyn Smith Crump. Zeno was the father of two sons, Lavell W. Crump "David Banner" and Justin E. Crump, and two daughters, Moya Taylor and Waukesha Taylor.
Zeno was a true family man. He loved his wife and children. He was devoted to his mother and sister. He was one of the patriarchs of his extended family. His opinion was often solicited because of the wisdom and intellect he processed. Zeno was true to his word. He was often stern but always fair. He also had a very humorous side. He gave the people he cared about nicknames and he loved to tease friends and loved ones. Zeno was extremely organized. He was a true leader. He donated his time and finances to several organizations.
Zeno Crump, Jr., leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Carolyn Crump; his sons, Lavell W. Crump of Jackson, Mississippi and Justin E. Crump of Brookhaven, Mississippi; two daughters, Moya Taylor and Waukesha Taylor, both of Memphis, Tennessee; one grandchild, Amaya Taylor of Memphis, Tennessee; his parents, Thelma Crump Dixon and J. D. Dixon of Brookhaven, Mississippi; sisters, Linda Crump Gayten (Anthony) of Brookhaven, Mississippi, Patricia Watkins of Anchorage, Alaska, Beverly Richardson (Thomas) of McComb, Mississippi; Alvin C. Dixon of Clarksdale, Mississippi, many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, friends and neighbors.

Mr. Zeno, as I called him, was always an inspiration to me. The wisdom and intellect he possessed, and freely gave of, I personally had tapped into time and time again. I viewed him as kind of a surrogate father figure in many ways. I will truly miss him. I give my condolences to the family. They truly lost a great man, and I, a great friend.

Zeno was like an uncle to me. He and my father were college roommates. I have known him all my life and it's hard to believe he is gone. He always had a smile and a joke whenever I saw him. He will truly be missed. Rest in Peace.
