Arley Smith Obituary
Sergeant First Class Arley C. Smith (RET.) was called to his heavenly home on October 26, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born on July 7, 1936, in Jefferson, Pennsylvania, to the late Arley and Mary Smith, Arley was a true patriot who honorably served in the United States Army. His distinguished military career spanned over two decades, culminating in his retirement in 1984. During his service, Arley completed one tour in Vietnam and several tours in South Korea and Germany, earning numerous commendations.
After retiring from the Army, Arley had a successful career as a carpenter with Suggs Construction spanning 20 years. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Arley enjoyed spending time with his family, whom he loved deeply. Arley was also passionate about woodworking and crafting. He found peace in collecting stamps and happiness in sharing the hobby with his daughter Sherry. He spent his free time building model cars, collecting miniature trains, making ornaments, and painting.
Arley was a humble, hard-working, and strong man. He struggled with many things in life including cancer. He put up an incredible fight, but after 25 years of battling various cancers, God called him home. He left this world surrounded by family and shrouded in their love. He is now restored, renewed, and walking hand in hand with loved ones he had lost such as his sister Betty Smith, and grandsons Shawn Smith, Tristan Smith, and Samuel Smith.
He led his family with a quiet dignity. His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by those he leaves behind including his cherished wife of 62 years, Bridget Smith; his children, Sherry Loy and Sandy Smith; and his grandchildren, Zac Loy, Payton Loy, and Kyle Smith.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Tennessee State Veterans Home for their compassionate care, especially to the nurses of houses 6 and 8 whose kindness and dedication brought great comfort in his final days.
