George Ree "Ike" Waldroup Jr.

1948 - 2025

George "Ike" Ree Waldroup Jr, age 77, of Hiawassee, Ga. passed peacefully on October 22, 2025. George was born on June 7, 1948, to George Sr. and Katie (Hedden) Waldroup in Clayton, Ga. George was a man of faith and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He also enjoyed attending First Freewill Church in Hayesville, N.C. George worked on the assembly line at General Motors then returned home to retire from the Hiawassee Hardware. He was a Mason and a Shriner. George was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served his country faithfully in the Vietnam War. He loved muscle cars, Barrett-Jackson auctions and especially 302 Boss Mustangs. George loved traveling out west, collecting knives and guns. Above all he was a proud grandfather who cherished and loved his grandchildren dearly.
George is preceded in death by his father, George Waldroup Sr; his mother, Katie (Hedden) Waldroup. He is survived by his son, Jason Waldroup and daughter, Celena Bailey; his sister Martha Berrong and her husband Dwight; his grandchildren, Alexis Donaldson and her husband William, Tristan Waldroup, and Olivia Bailey and his great- grandchild, Alena Donaldson and a number of nieces and nephews. George's wish was to be cremated and no funeral services will be held. However, an informal visitation of close friends and family took place on Saturday Oct. 25, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home.
