Beatrice Arbutus Long, 82, of Hayesville, passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2025.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County and the daughter of the late Merle and Hazel Morris Matheson. Beatrice worked as a caregiver; she loved taking care of elderly people. She enjoyed camping, walking, traveling with her friends and family and baking. Beatrice loved taking care of her grandkids and great grandkids. She was a member of Shooting Creek Church of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Long; two brothers, Grady and Merle Matheson; two sisters, Gin Matheson and Frances Turrill; and three grandchildren, Alex "Chief" Parker, Gavin Long and Tanner Long.
She is survived by her children, Jim Long (Cinda), Randy Long, Pat Berrong (Ron) all of Hayesville and Lynn Sanchez of Hiawassee, Ga.; one sister, Alice Coleman of Young Harris, Ga.; five grandkids, Tamara Whitney (Brandon), Jade Shelton, Denahi Sanchez, Bret and Dalton Long; 11 great-grandkids, one great-great grandkid; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14 at Catalyst Church in Hayesville.
