Joan Flowers Obituary

Mrs. Joan Frances Flowers, 77, of Arthur Flowers Drive, Mineral Bluff, Ga., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home on Friday Feb. 20, 2026 following an extended illness. Mrs. Flowers was born on Feb. 19, 1949 in Ricetown, Ky., the daughter of the late William Jay Bristol and the late Thelma Frances Hardin Bristol. She was a lifelong resident of Clay and Fannin counties. Joan was a teacher for more than 33 years and had taught school in Clay, Fannin, Polk and Union counties. She loved growing flowers and working outside. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was her life. She was preceded in death by her parents and also a brother, James Bristol. Mrs. Flowers was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Flowers are her loving husband and best friend of 51 years, Charles Flowers, of Mineral Bluff; one daughter, Tonya Rutledge, of Mineral Bluff; one son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Dawn Flowers, of Mineral Bluff; four brothers, Dwight Bristol, of Eugene, Ore., Gail Bristol, of Eugene, Lindsey Bristol, of Hayesville, Bruce Bristol, of Eugene; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Carol Bristol of McDonough, Ga., Shirley and Forest Johnson, of Hayesville; five grandchildren, Tristen, Kianah and Eli Flowers, Jessie and Dakota Rutledge and Mason Brown; two great-grandchildren, Paisely Flowers and Colter Rutledge, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23 at the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. Robert Flowers officiating. The following gentleman served as pallbearers, Craig, Tristen and Eli Flowers, Jessie and Dakota Rutledge, and Mason Brown. Interment followed in the Vanhook Baptist Church cemetery. The family met with friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22.
