Michael Holden Obituary
Michael's creative spirit fueled a diverse array of interests, including drawing, painting, poetry, reading, cinema, animals and cooking. He possessed a unique eye for the unusual, finding fascination in the strange and beauty in the overlooked, evidenced by his joy in collecting peculiar things.
A proud Air Force Veteran, he served his country with honor and dedication, a commitment to service that mirrored his devotion to all that encountered him.
He was the son of the late Robert C. and Mary T. Morgan Holden. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Neal S. Holden.
Surviving are three nieces, Kelly Holden, of Hayesville, Kim Santiago, of Miami, Fla., and Joyce Matso, of Ohio.
A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Rev. Greg Carroll officiating and military honors conducted by the Hayesville American Legion Post 532, Hayesville VFW Post 6812 and Murphy American Legion Post 96.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Michael J. Holden to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.

Dear Family of Michael Jay Holden, Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Michael. He always enjoyed Pineapple Upside Down cakes and I was planning on giving him one at Christmas. Michael was a generous and tender-hearted person who will be missed by all who knew him.
