Roberta Stetson Obituary

Roberta Stetson, 83, of Hayesville, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
Born on Aug. 31, 1941 to the late Robert and Johanna Schweitzer in Jersey City, N.J. She met her husband, the late Robert Stetson in Civil Air Patrol and enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Roberta worked many jobs throughout her career, but found her niche' in Real Estate in Maryland and Florida prior to relocating to Hayesville. With a life long interest in learning and expanding her horizons as an adult, while living in Florida, she received an under graduate degree in the arts.
As an avid crafter and after moving to Hayesville, she finally opened her own crafting business, Two Busy Hands. She enjoyed passing on her knowledge to others through crafting classes. After retiring, Roberta enjoyed staying busy. She and Robert found tremendous joy in traveling, from camping throughout the U.S. and cruising to both domestic and international destinations. She also volunteered her time to many organizations and the community. Throughout the years she was involved in the Chamber of Commerce, the food pantry, the Peacock Playhouse and Granny's Attic Thrift Store. Roberta was a member of the Hayesville First United Methodist Church. Over the years, many friends within the church and community were made. She loved living in a "small town" and everything a small town had to offer. She would spend many evenings on the square indulging in the free performances.
In addition to her parents, Roberta was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Stetson, on April 5, 2019. She is survived by her brother, Bob Schweitzer, and wife, Audrey, of Pennsylvania; a sister, Donna Rathe, and husband, Robert, of Fairfax, Va.; her son, Timothy Stetson, and wife, Rhonda, of Hayesville; her daughter, Kimberly Kidwell, and husband, Sam, of Middletown, Del.; six grandchildren, Andrew, Patrick, Logan, Joshua, Lee and Dallas; eight great-grandchildren; many cousins; a niece and many nephews. In addition to family, she had many dear friends that meant the world to her. The family would like to thank Four Seasons Hospice and the staff at Angel Medical Center for the wonderful and compassionate care they provided in her final days with us.
A memorial service will be held at the Hayesville First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24 with a reception after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hayesville First United Methodist Church.
