CAROLINE SWANSON Obituary

CAROLINE WILSON DANIEL SLAWSON Caroline Wilson Daniel Slawson died peacefully at age 83 on August 31, 2024 at her home in Montgomery, AL. She was the third of five children born to Frank and Martha Daniel of Clayton, AL. She met her husband of 63 years, Guice, while in college, and they were married in 1960. She then graduated from the University of Alabama in 1961. Settling back in Barbour County, she had three sons in quick succession, and spent the next several years working diligently as the only lady in the house to maintain a degree of civility in her home. She was a stalwart at Louisville Baptist Church for many years, engaging in VBS, Sun Beams, Royal Ambassadors, Acteens, youth retreats, youth choir trips, and she was involved as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, soloist, and many other volunteer roles in the church. In addition to her church engagement, she taught school for many years. While she had a reputation as a strict disciplinarian in the classroom, she was also known as a teacher who was genuinely interested in encouraging her students to learn. Caroline was an embodiment of decorum and propriety and was a true 'steel magnolia' in her mix of grace, love, and determination. She endured many years of limited physical mobility without complaint. Her motivation to complete her initial six month stay in the physical rehabilitation facility was the upcoming Christmas cantata at Louisville Baptist, and she was an inspiration to all who knew her and saw her tenacity in not letting her disability define her. Who she was, instead, was a devoted and supportive wife, a loving mother, an excellent mother-in-law, a doting grandmother, a dog person, and most of all, a follower of Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents Frank Wilson Daniel and Martha Carter Thompson Daniel, and sisters Martha Daniel Beaty and Francis Daniel Zorge. She is survived by her husband, Guice Slawson, and two brothers, Frank Wilson Daniel, Jr. of Laguna Beach, CA and Herman 'Hunky' Daniel (Terry) of Union Springs, AL; three sons: Guice, Jr. (Leah), Stinson (Tami), and Bill (Katie), ten grandchildren: Guice "Chip" Slawson III, Claire Slawson Cleveland (Patrick), Mary Augusta Slawson Hill (Preston), Stinson Slawson, Jr. (Mary Emma), Suzanna Slawson, Emma Slawson, Anna Slawson, Shelby Slawson, Ellie Slawson, Clara Slawson, and three great-grandchildren: Wesley Cleveland, Anne Caroline Cleveland, and Anne Fowler Wilson Hill. The family wishes to give special thanks to Dolores Love, Cassandra Henderson, Monique Hardie, Gloria Williams, Ann Ross, and Gentiva Hospice for the loving care they provided for Caroline in her final days. A Celebration of Life for Caroline will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1728 S Hull Street, Montgomery, Alabama 36104. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Service Dogs Alabama or Montgomery Christian School, two organizations close to Caroline's heart.
