CHERYL CORNELIUS 03/05/1948 - 03/22/2026 On Sunday, March 22, 2026, Cheryl Ann Cornelius, Clio's beloved librarian, passed away following complications from surgery in July 2025. Cheryl was born on March 5, 1948, in
Charleston, West Virginia, and made her final home in Clio, Alabama, a community she loved and served faithfully. She was employed by the City of Clio as the librarian at the Elton B. Stephens Library, where she brought her passion for reading, learning, and children's activities to life. Cheryl was a devoted member of Clio Baptist Church, where she expressed her love for Jesus through service and fellowship. She taught a ladies' Sunday School class and served on numerous committees, including hospitality, flowers, nominating, and building and grounds. She also taught Vacation Bible School, where she especially enjoyed worsing with children, and was known for her warm spirit in preparing meals, decorating, and welcoming others during church fellowships. She was an active member and secretary of the George C. Wallace Heritage Association and took great pride in helping organize the Clio Christmas Parade. Cheryl had a deep love for animals and never turned away a stray. She will be remembered as a kind, generous, intelligent, and joyful woman who loved her family, friends, and community deeply, and who used her God given talents to serve others and glorify her Lord. She will be greatly missed. A memorail service will be held at Clio Baptist Church on April 11, 2026, with Pastor Rick Campball officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. All are invited toattend and celebrate Cheryl's life. A second memorial service will be held on May 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida, where she will be laid to rest. Cheryl is survived by her son, David Brock Cornelius of Orlando, Florida: two sisters, Carol Sue Shine of Clio, and Linda Joyce Barbosa of Indiana; one nephew, Mark Wyatt of Indiana; two nieces, Lisa Prusaki of Winter Springs, Florida, and AmiePatty-Dilla of Clearwater, Florida. She is also survived by many dear friends of Clio, throughout Alabama, and in Florida who loved her deeply, including Larry and Jane Moates of Clio, Alabama, and Lisa Parks Smith of Moody, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Thomas Kirk and Ethel Kirk, and her beloved son, Brad Turner Cornelius. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to further the Kingdom of God through Clio Baptist Church, P.O. Box 96, Clio, Alabama 36017.
