Larry Dale Akers

April 6, 1948 – September 20, 2014
Larry D. Akers, 66, of Evans, Colo., passed away on Sept. 20, 2014, in Greeley, Colo. He was born in Denver on April 6, 1948.
Larry was raised in the Denver area and graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1966. He attended Mesa State College in Grand Junction after high school
He participated in Cub Scouts during his childhood, wrestling in high school and college, and drove cars really fast. Upon retirement, he purchased a 2008 Shelby GT 500 Cobra, which led him to the Northern Colorado Mustang Club. Other interests included NASCAR, and HO trains.
Larry's career in law enforcement lasted for more than 33 years, including time as an investigator with the Gilpin County Sheriff's Office, Clear Creek Sheriff's Office and Idaho Springs Police Department.
Larry married Roberta Kidwell on April 17, 1968, in Idaho Springs.
Larry is survived by his wife, Roberta of Evans; son, Travis Akers of Evans; daughter, Erika Coleman, and her fiance, Steve Brown of Independence, Iowa; grandchildren, Khrista Kuznicki of Fort Brad, N.C., Nathan Coleman of Williston, N.D., and Wytney Coleman and Joey Coleman Jr. of Independence, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Drake and Hope Kuznicki; brother, Darryl, and wife, Lorraine of Arvada; and many cousins.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Elizabeth Bloom Akers.
Memorial services for Larry will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at the Gilpin County Justice Center, 2960 Dory Hill Road, Black Hawk, starting at 3 p.m.
