Just finding out about Mikes passing today. He was such a fine gentleman and along with his son Steven they made my son Kiel feel welcomed at our church and other play date activities. We were California transplants known then as the Cribbs family. I have fond memories of the entire family and I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one.

Joyce and family,

My deepest sympathy on the loss of Mike. As a fellow KU aeronautical engineering alumni, I'm fortunate to have known him and worked with him on the KU Engineering Advisory Board. His perceptive insights and calm demeanor were appreciated by everyone on the Board. Above all, his character and humility were second to none. May he rest in peace and may his legacy continue through all he has done for so many.

Joyce, I just heard about Michael's transition and I am so sorry. He was such a great guy and I mean "guy" as he was so down to earth. Don't think he ever met a stranger or if he did, they were not a stranger very long. I appreciated his sense of humor and his terrific laugh. I know you will miss him as will all who knew him, but I know you have great memories that will sustain you when you are feeling low. Plus spirit never dies - he'll always be with you. With Sincerity, Rose Marie Caple

Dear Joyce and Stephen,
Please accept our deepest sympathy.I'm devastated. Mike was a real good mate and one of the finest men I've met. I eagerly awaited the Shinn's biannual visits to Straddie where ' Big Mike' made numerous friends. We enjoyed the odd beer and punt, talked sport, solved the world's problems and shared many a laugh. Such a gentle giant! I remember the first meeting our church youth group had in his home. He wanted the youth of our church to "own" their ministry. I believe it is in large part why I serve in ministry today. Thank you for your gift of Servant Leadership. Well done, good and faithful servant...

We will continue to lift your wife and son in our prayers!

I am so sad to hear this. Mike meant so much to me and my career as he paved a way for me into GE and then later to obtain a GEM fellowship for my PhD in electrical engineering at KU through GE. He also encouraged me as a fellow KU Engineering Advisory Board member. I will miss his mentorship and friendship. He was always reaching back to help others at KU, and nationally through GE and NSBE. May the Lord give his wife and family peace and comfort during this time. Rock Chalk, Mike. We will see you again some day in heaven.
