Memories and Condolences
for PATRICK DIULUS

Not sure what to say?

My belated condolences. I knew Pat and Sharon as a subcontractor doing work inside their home. Even though Mr. Diulus was the head coach of the girls“ team at Trinity, he actually offered us help in getting our son a scholarship since he was a football and track athlete. Although he ended up at Benedictine HS, his thoughtfulness in even offering help will always be remembered. Blessings to all in the Diulus family.

Those of us who were at Regina the last few years always asked the question, 'how many girls were afforded the opportunity to go to college because of Pat's program who otherwise wouldn't have been able to?'

The answer has always been, 'probably too many to count.'

Pat Diulus did more than win basketball games. He changed peoples lives!

I got to know Mr.Pat and his son Pat JR. and grandchildren while working as an usher at Cleveland Browns Stadium, although the games were often difficult to watch it sure was great to see and talk to Mr. Pat and the family every week. It was some of the great memories I had working at the games. Although I live in Las Vegas now I will always have fond memories that Mr. Pat and his family provided for me. To the Diulus Family,
I had the opportunity to compete against Coach D many times as a Varsity Assistant Coach at Cleveland Central Catholic. His care and concern for his athletes was easy to see. He helped me to be a better coach even though he probably didn't realize it. Thanks Coach for everything you did for your girls and the game of Girls Basketball.

Mrs. Diulus and family- I am so sorry for the loss of your husband and father. Mr. "D" was a very special man and touched so many lives that he will never be forgotten. The memories that all of us have will keep him alive forever and I hope you find comfort in knowing that. We will miss him dearly...

Dear Diulus Family,

I am sorry to learn of Pat's death. He changed the women's basketball scene in NE ohio. All programs had to step up and work. Many girls who were not coached by Pat also benefitted from the successes at Trinity and Regina. Girls wanted to be the next Semeka, and coaches wanted their players to be able to compete.
I know Pat touched so many lives in positive ways, evident from the kind words from past players. May family, friends, and the basketball world help you through this very difficult time.

Sincerely,

Coach Amy Manco--Avon Lake

Please accept my sincere sympathy on the passing of your dad and Husband. There are no words I can offer that will make this any easier, but hopefully just knowing that your father and husband has touched and helped so many. I want to thank you for sharing your father and Husband with all of us. I am so fortunate I had a chance to play for and be mentored by coach D. I had a chance to see coach D a couple of months ago and it was such a pleasant surprise. I got a chance to reminisce and say thank you for all he did for me. I will cherish that memory. I know for a fact that I would not be where I am today if it was not for Coach Diulus. He was a great coach, teacher and mentor. May God bless and comfort you and your family at this time.

With warmest regards,
Krista Fortson-Smith

Sharing three decades in the HS GBB world, I am grateful to have known and enjoyed Pat as a peer; his effort and dedication were paramount- and I am confident that the Dear Lord will don a snappy sweater in Pat's honor. Much love to his family.

Sharon and family - let me share my deepest sympathy with your family on the death of your dear husband and father. Pat and I became friends because of our interest in athletic and athletes. We were both determined to assist our young people to make success and meet their goals in life. Pat's love for his athletes is evident in the work he did to ensure their entry into college. I regret that I cannot share his funeral Mass. I will be out of town on vacation but will offer a Mass for the repose of his soul. May God be with all of you!

Coach - I am eternally grateful for the opportunities you opened up for me. For believing in me, for teaching me, for loving all of us like we were your own. We are all family. Know that your girls are still all in touch with eachother because we were created into a family by you. We are all coming together in this sad time, but will continue to love and to support eachother as your legacy lives on through all of us and our children...and theirs. Love you... See you again in Heaven. Watch over us, as always. - Melissa Kreiger Thornburg

Coach D has been in my life since I was a baby. He has watched me grow and helped mold me to become one of Cleveland's greatest basketball players, hence 4 state championship rings.
A true legend indeed and a great role model and mentor to a lot of young women. His legacy will live on through the hundreds of women he's coached. Gone but never forgotten. I love you Coach. My prayers are with the family!
