Charles Bernardi Obituary
Charles was born at home on August 25, 1940, in Blackshear, Georgia, to Paul Andrew and Alma Lucille Bernardi. He spent his early years in Georgia and later in Jacksonville, Florida, before the family moved to Kansas City when he was 10 years old in pursuit of better opportunities.
He attended Lillis High School, graduating in 1957, and went on to study at junior college before attending mechanic school. In 1959, Charles enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country for four years. With just nine months remaining in his service, he married the love of his life, Bette. Together, they built a life and home in Prairie Village, Kansas, where they lived for 25 years.
Charles worked for General Motors for 36 years, a career marked by dedication and skill. After retiring, he enjoyed life at his cherished lake house, where he became actively involved in the local community, even serving as President of the Fire Department. Though retired, Charles was called back twice by General Motors-first in Wentzville, Missouri, for two and a half years, and later in Arlington, Texas, for three and a half years-testament to his expertise and reliability.
Throughout his life, Charles was an avid fisherman and golfer, spending countless hours enjoying the activities he loved. After 35 years at the Lake of the Ozarks, he and Bette moved to Sterett Creek outside of Warsaw. Charles and Bette shared a beautiful marriage of nearly 63 years, a milestone they would have celebrated on October 5, 2025.
He is survived by his beloved wife Bette; their two children, Tony and Beth; one granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
