JANE BLAKE Obituary

JANE BLAKE Lunenburg - Jane Lynne (Chapman) Blake, 76, a talented artist and literature enthusiast of Lunenburg, Mass., died at RiverCourt Residences in Groton, Mass., on Monday, March 10 from Alzheimer's disease. Jane was born in Clinton, Mass., on November 18, 1948, the youngest of three children born to Grace (Brown) and James Chapman. She grew up in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School in 1966. Jane went on to attend Westfield State College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and later a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from Assumption College. Jane began her career as an editor, which included becoming editor in chief of the peer reviewed Digital Technical Journal published by Digital Equipment Corporation. After this job came to an end, along with the company itself, Jane turned to her love of painting and worked with many mediums, and went on to successfully participate in juried shows. Jane loved reading and could often be found cozied up with a book, a cup of tea and a cat or dog on her lap, or just as often at the easel capturing the infinite dimensions of the changing light and its reflections in her latest landscape painting with amazing skill. In 1977 she met and married William "Bill" Blake and they made their home in Lunenburg for over 40 years. They had a soft spot for their furry friends, treating each and every one like the valuable family member they were. Jane and Bill did a lot of traveling around the world and they would always enjoy exploring art museums, local music events and of course interesting restaurants serving local cuisine. Jane spent most summers at her beloved home on Prince Edward Island, Canada, and was a member of the local art community. Jane was predeceased by her husband William Blake, her sister Beverly Bray, and her parents James and Grace Chapman. She is survived by her brother Dr. Robert Chapman of California, her cousin Elaine Marino (husband Jim) of Clinton, her brother-in-law, William S. Bray of Southampton, Mass., and nephews and nieces. In accordance with Jane's wishes there will be no calling hours or services. Funeral Arrangements are being handled by Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St. Clinton. ...there were many happy visits to Lunenburg, occasions where Jane openly shared her laughter, stories and opinions...her home and studio seemed like warm peaceful sanctuaries... during visits/holidays when conversations turned to gossiping between friends or eruptions between family elders, Jane might chime in, but always in a gentle/dignified way...she certainly lives in her art which will be treasured far into the future...blessing and peace to all who remember and miss her.

A hundred little memories from my childhood and the decades since...thank you, Jane, for everything you brought into my life. Every trip to PEI was my favorite. I wouldn´t give up a moment up there with you, Miss Jane. Even the hard times were precious.

I remember so many weekends during our youths on Elm Street....riding bikes, playing house on everyone´s front steps, playing in the snow and so many other memorable times I remember visiting her beautiful home in Lunenburg! Such a friendly, loving woman! She will be missed by many!
