LIONEL PARENT Obituary

LIONEL PARENT CLINTON - Lionel A. "Lee" Parent, 80, joined the love of his life, his wife of 43 years, Carol (McGinnis) Parent in the afterlife when he died in his home surrounded by the love and care of his family on Sunday, March 03, 2024, after a courageous battle against cancer of the esophageal junction. Born in St. Albans, VT, to Lionel and Frieda Parent, Lee was raised on his family's dairy farm in East Berkshire, VT. Being a lover of the outdoors, Lee spent many of his formative years hunting in the woods around his family's property. In the early 1960's, Lee moved to Clinton Massachusetts where he began working at Buck Chair and met Regina Buck's personal assistant, who would become his bride to be. In 1976, Lee began working as a welder for National Perforating, Corp. in Clinton. Through his hard work and dedication, he was promoted to welding supervisor. In 1995, Lee began working as the plant superintendent for Monadnock Screen Plate, Co. in Jaffrey, NH. Always a company man, Lee continued working with Monadnock Screen Plate, Co. until they closed their doors in 2003. A proud Vietnam Veteran, Lee joined the United States Navy in 1966. It was in the Navy where Lee was trained to become a welder. While on active duty, he served on the Samuel Gompers (AD-37) and the USS Ranger (CVA-61). After completing active duty, Lee continued serving his country as a member of the Navy Reserve until his retirement as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1990. Lee leaves behind his three children, Pamela A. Silvester and her husband John C. Silvester of West Boylston, his son, John A. Parent of Clinton, and his daughter, Lee A. Parent and her partner, Tammy L. Barriere of Dudley. He also leaves behind his granddaughter, Mariah S. Silvester of West Boylston, his brother, Leonard J. Parent of St. Albans, VT, and several nephews and nieces along with countless others who will miss the comedic antics of "Uncle Lee". Lee loved to travel and his time in the Navy opened up a whole new world for him. He especially loved his multiple trips to Hawaii with his beloved Carol. When at home the "Tomato King" could often be found out in his garden tending to his plants in order to win the informal growing competitions he had with other tomato growers in his life. Lee brought joy to many others in so many ways and he will be greatly missed. Lee's Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 10AM in Saint John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union Street, Clinton. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to meet directly at the Church. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held at McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church Street, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Lee may be made to the Friends of the Southborough Council on Aging, 9 Cordaville Road, Southborough, MA 01772. The 20 minute visit that turned into 5-1/2 hours.<br />(from L to R, my co-worker, Junior, and I). The beer sure was cold!

Sorry for your loss Leonard. God bless you, Pam, Lee, John and your families. He was a very nice man that had a kind heart and I will never forget the time me and my coworker, Todd were down that way, further South, disassembling a machine and loading it up into tractor trailers. On the way back I told Todd, “We are going off course and making a stop to see my cousin Junior, to say HI and then we’ll get back on the highway.” Junior said to me, “You can't leave now. I want both of you to stay for supper.” Wow, what a meal Junior and his wife put on for both of us! BBQ chicken, sweet corn, fresh garden vegetables, and salad! We visited and talked about the good times, took some photos and had a few cold beers with himthe next thing we knew it was five and a half hours later. I will never forget that visit!!! I would like to dedicate the song, Don’t Let The Old Man In by Toby Keith to Junior, who never did let the old man in. R.I P. Junior and God bless you!!
