Mar Kam Sau Wong, 99, of Clinton, Mass., passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, at home. Born on November 10, 1925, in China to the late Ong Ben Mah and Nui Yung. Mar K was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is predeceased by her husband, Loy Wing Wong. Survived by her loving children: Mary Viriyayuthakorn of Bordentown, N.J., Jeannie King of Melrose, Mass., Peter, William, Norma, and Timothy Wong, all of Clinton, Mass. Also survived by 10 cherished grandchildren: Jason Viriyayuthakorn, Amy Viriyayuthakorn, Sandra Hatcher, Nicholas Wong, Jessica Wong, Benjamin Wong, Katherine Faieta, Jonathan Lucht, Abigail King, Quincy King II and nine great-grandchildren: Jace Viriyayuthakorn, Rory Viriyayuthakorn, Isabella Blair, Maryn Hatcher, Patrick Wong, Grady Wong, Frankie Faieta, Ellie Faieta, and Winston King.
Mar K Wong lived an extraordinary life that spanned a century of change and challenge. She was born in the village of Baksa, Canton, China, and passed away peacefully just nine days before her 100th birthday.
At the age of 21, her father arranged her marriage to Loy Wing Wong, a U.S. citizen originally from a neighboring village. Upon arrival in California, the couple stayed briefly with her father, Ben, before Loy Wing traveled to Boston to find work and a place to live. Several weeks later, and speaking very little English, Mar K boarded a train alone for Boston - an experience she would always remember.
The family eventually settled in Clinton, where they purchased a laundry business. They became the first Chinese family in Clinton and raised six children above the shop on High Street. To help support the family, Mar K also dried duck, salted duck eggs, and made rice wine. She managed the laundry during times when her husband worked in manufacturing, operated the Fung Wong restaurant with relatives, and after his passing in 1988.
Throughout her life, Mar K was known for her warmth, generosity, and joyful spirit. She loved to cook, garden, play games, travel, and spend time with friends and family.
Mar K will be remembered for her strength, resilience, work ethic, and her exceptional cooking. She leaves behind a legacy of love - instilling in her children the importance of family, togetherness, and the joy of sharing meals.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Mar Kam Wong to Clinton Public Schools Scholarship & Enrichment Foundation, Inc., PO Box 732, Clinton, MA 01510.
