Andrew Wrench Obituary

MOCKSVILLE — Andrew Thomas "Tommy" Wrench, 88, died Nov. 20, 2017, at home with several family members present.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at Roseboro United Methodist Church in Roseboro.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service.

He was born Sept. 12, 1929 to Alton and Eleanor Wrench in Clinton. They later moved to Wilmington, where he graduated from New Hanover High School in 1947. In 1949, he married his high school sweetheart, Marian "Tommie" Vaught. He served two years in the US Navy, stationed in San Diego. He also served 24 years in the Army National Guard. In the 1950s, he and his parents opened Roseboro Electric Service. After 10 years, he left the family business and began teaching Electrical Wiring and Installation classes at Sampson Community College in Clinton. He retired from SCC in the mid-1990s, and continued to teach part-time when needed until about 2005.

He was an avid small aircraft pilot, taking numerous trips with family and friends to places across the country. He also enjoyed outdoor activities—boating, camping, and fishing.

He was a lifelong member of Roseboro United Methodist Church, sang in the choir for many years, participated in various capacities in church leadership committees, and assisted for years and years with building and grounds maintenance.

He is survived by his wife Tommie; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and James Shilkoff; granddaughters Karen Neadle and Alicia Hamlin; grandson Rick Hamlin; and great-granddaughter Skylynn Hamlin; as well as his sister, Sue Baker of Suffolk, Va., and brother Ronnie Wrench of Wilmington.

Services are by Butler Funeral Home of Roseboro.
