SALEMBURG — Mrs. Sarah Catherine Baugh Howard, 83, passed away on Friday Dec. 25, 2021 at Hospice and Palliative Care, Cabarrus County.
Mrs. Howard was a native of Cumberland County, the daughter of the late John Yule and Dorothy Baugh. She was preceded in death by her husband Craig Howard; her brothers Jack, Charles, Jerry and David, and her sisters, Mary, Rudy, Betty and Barbara.
Sarah became a resident of Sampson County at a young age. She worked as a Kindergarten Aide at Salemburg School. She opened and operated "The Treasure Chest" in downtown Salemburg for 13 years. She was a faithful member of Salemburg Baptist Church. She sang in the choir for 63 years.
She is survived by three daughters, Karen Jernigan (Roger), of Concord, Bette Jo Broome (Bill), of Valrico, Fla., Gerry Howard of Tampa, Fla. and one son, Craig V. Howard (Sharon), of Richland Wash., 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Sarah was a kind, gentle spirit who had an infectious laugh. She loved playing card games, solving crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy and basketball. She was a born again Christian and loved her family so much.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Salemburg Baptist Church, PO Box 537, Salemburg, NC 28385 or to the Hospice Center in Cabarrus County; Atrium Health Foundation, 208 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. The funeral will be 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, at Salemburg Baptist Church, 300 N. Main St., Salemburg with visitation starting at 10 a.m., officiated by the Rev. John Adams. Burial will follow at Salemburg Cemetery.
