Bradley Hicks Obituary

Sgt. (ret.) Bradley Alexander Hicks Sr. departed life on Saturday morning, Aug. 28. 2010, at 9:22 while at Liberty Regional Medica1 Center in Hinesville.
Sgt. Hicks was born on Oct. 19, 1921, in Norphlet, Ark., the son of the late Elder Felix Hicks and the late Mrs. Cleopatra Thornton Hicks. He was the eldest of 10 siblings, five girls and five boys. All, except one, have preceded him in death.
Sgt. Hicks was married to the late Mrs. Mattie Mathis Hicks, a retired officer of the Liberty County Board of Education and retired Diamond Elementary School teacher on Fort Stewart. Mrs. Hicks passed on Dec. 30, 2009. To their union, three children were born. One, Bradley Alexander Hicks Jr., preceded him in death at age 33.
Sgt. Hicks attended the public schools in Union County, Ark. He spent his working years with and retired from the United States Army and civil service, while working at the Fort Stewart Commissary.
He leaves to share his sweet memory two children, a girl and a boy, Sandra Hicks Sheffield, a retired educator from Waycross Middle School and Felix LaVerne Hicks, a motivator and family planner, both of Midway; one grandson, Alvester Sheffield III of Savannah; and one brother, Herman (Marlane) Hicks of Flint, Mich.
Sgt. Hicks has gained the love of many adopted children. His godchildren are Ethel and Kent Wright, De Angelo Dawson, Andrea Rose, Dave and Elouise Green and Maxine Guyton, all of Liberty County, also Ada Joseph of Kingsland. He had one god-brother, the Rev. Robert Leo Cox of Durham, N.C.
He also leaves a number of Hicks and Mathis relatives and friends to carry on his legacy of joy, happiness, fine foods and the fellowships that express love. Family and friends will assemble at his home 8308 E. Oglethorpe Hwy. in Midway.
Arrangements include a viewing and wake starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Midway Congregational Church on Highway 84. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, also at the church. Burial will take place Sunday at the Dixon Cemetery in the Queensland community in Fitzgerald.
Dorchester Funeral Home of Midway, has charge of arrangements.

I am sorry to be hear about your dear father. You both are beautiful and kind people and I will never forget your kind and gentle nature as you sat by your father's hospital bedside, day in and day out, showing him such love and devotion. I consider myself privileged to have helped in his care while at Liberty Regional Medical Center and I truly will miss seeing all of you.
