Edward Walthour Obituary
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie G. Walthour Sr. and Mother Susie Mae Bacon Walthour; sister, Idell Walthour; brother, Oliver Walthour; and son, George Grant III.
At an early age, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and joined Thebes AME Church in Midway.
He received his education in the Liberty County Public School System. He was employed by AFEES for 18 years. He also followed in the footsteps of his father and became self-employed, operating EM Walthour Service Station and package shop for many years in Midway. He served as a Liberty County foster parent, alongside his wife,
He used his business as a platform to help the local community through giving, and thus he gained the nickname "Boss Hog."
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, LaGloria Grant Walthour. They were united in holy matrimony on March 2, 1968. He is remembered with love by his children, Verlitta Walthour Hendrix of Jacksonville, FL, Selma Grant of Atlanta, Nicholas Walthour of Midway, Terry Weaver of Clementon, NJ, Brenda McIver (Leonard) of Summerville, SC, and Linda Robinson of Midway; nine grandchildren, Kalil, Celebrity, Shaneequa, Malasia, Shakinah, Jawan, N'Shaylah, Latisha and a very dedicated granddaughter, Tanisha Nicole Hicks, who acknowledged her grandfather as her "brown-eyed king;" three great-grandchildren, Chatayana, Shaheem and Alayja; two brothers, James N. Walthour Sr. (Rose) of Miami, FL, and Willie G. Walthour Jr. (Ernestine) of Midway; two sisters, Gloria Brown and Doris Hargrove, both of Midway; one brother-in-law, Cedric Procter of Midway; one uncle, Edward Milton Walthour of Miami; one aunt, Mother Rosa Turner of Midway; four godchildren, Brian Hargrove, Ericka Miller, Ericka Golden and Lisa Drake; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His wake will be 6-7 p.m. Friday, April 13, at Dorchester Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Thebes AME Church, 132 Walthour Road, Midway. Interment will be in Simmons Cemetery.
Dorchester Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
