Stanley Frankenthaler Obituary

Stanley Edward "Bud" Frankenthaler Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Southeast Georgia Healthcare System in Brunswick.
He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Boyd Frankenthaler; his parents, Stanley Edward and Jeannette Tuchler Frankenthaler; and a niece, Caitlin Georgia Schmidt (Eligio).
Bud was born on May 10, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY. He attended South Side High School in Rockville Centre, NY, and Hofstra College in Hempstead, NY, where, in 1955, he earned a BA in business administration. Upon graduation, Bud enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served both in the United States and Germany, and was captain of the 58th Mechanized Division.
After leaving the military, Bud worked for AT&T and then McGraw-Hill Publishers. He left McGraw-Hill after buying a Safari Campground in Savannah. Starting a new venture, Bud became owner of Dr. Bully's Restaurant in Hinesville. After his retirement from the restaurant, Bud started Security Designs Systems, working until just days before he passed away.
Bud was active in many community and charitable organizations, including the local and state Republican Party, Chamber of Commerce, Jesup Presbyterian Church, the Humane Society, just to name a few. He was also an Eagle Scout and a lifetime member of Mensa International.
Bud was an avid triathlon competitor, winning trophies in several local competitions and metals in state and national Senior Games. In 1996, Bud was selected to be a torch bearer for the Olympic Games in Atlanta.
Bud enjoyed family reunions and made sure not to miss any. He was loved and will be missed.
Bud is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Rozier Frankenthaler; his children, Debbie Lee Gaskin and Stanley Edward Frankenthaler III (Laura); his granddaughters, Jaynie and Kate Gaskin, Danielle and Brianne Husisian, and Chloe Ferguson; great-grandson, Tyler; siblings, James Robert Frankenthaler (Ethel) and his much younger sister, Jan Margaret Schmidt (John); nieces and nephews, Louis (Anat), Michael (Marci), Douglas (Michelle), Evan (Amy), and Gillian (Steve); and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
At 2 p.m. Friday, June 22, a memorial service will be held at the Jesup Presbyterian Church, 297 S. Brunswick St., Jesup.
At 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, a memorial service will be held at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel, 308 West Oglethorpe Highway, Hinesville.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Jesup Presbyterian Church, 297 S. Brunswick St., Jesup, GA 31546.

I am so sorry to hear about Uncle Bud. I loved Aunt Ginny and Uncle Bud. I will always remember our vacations such as the World's Fair, Luray Vaverns, and to visit them in St. Louis.

I got to know Bud as a musician who regularly performed at his tavern and restaurant, Dr. Bullie's, in the mid-to-late 80s. It was a great place to gather at the end of the work day and Bud was the perfect host for the family friendly atmosphere. He will certainly be missed by all who knew him.

Miss Barbara, it was an honor to know Bud. I've never known someone with so much ambition and a heart of gold! He always took time for the little moments, and that meant a lot. You and the Family will be in my Prayers, he will be sorely missed and love is for forever..... Love you Always. Lee Ann and Jimmy Bailey.

Bud, I really enjoyed our conversation a few weeks ago and am saddened we wont be able to do that triathlon we talked about. That wouldve been really really cool and an absolute honor. The next one I compete in I will carry your memory with me and know that your spirit will be swimming, biking, and running beside me every inch along the way. May God keep you in his loving arms and grant you eternal peace. My condolences to every member of your family as I know they love you and will miss you beyond measure.

Bud was a truly renaissance man. He proudly displayed a banner that had flown over the route of his leg of the Olympic relay as he passed through Hinesville's and I am sure that there was not enough money for his torch to be purchased from him.

He had faithful employees such as Joan, LouRae and Oscar. Bud prided himself on the quality of food and adult beverages put out at Bullie's. There were many people that looked at the stained glass profile of a bearded man and thought it to be Bud but I believe historically it was Dr. Billie himself.

Barbara, Stan and the rest of the family understand there are many of us who grieve with you. We have lost a good Presbyterian elder and member of the Grand Old Party.

May God bless.

My sincerest condolences go the family of Bud. I enjoyed working with him on the Liberty County Historical Society and remember watching him as he brought the Olympic Torch into Hinesville in 1996. He was always a very busy man involved with many activities that involved the public.
