Diane Buckalew Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Diane Buckalew on August 4, 2025, at the age of 83 in Broomfield, CO. A vibrant soul, Diane found joy in life each day and lived it to the fullest.
Diane was born on July 13, 1942, in Fresno, CA to Earl and Iva Zander. She earned a BA in Elementary Education from Fresno State in 1965 and an MA in Education from the University of LaVerne in 1984. Diane worked in Fresno Unified School District for more than 30 years as a teacher and administrator. After retirement in 2000, she spent time mentoring administrators, supervising student teachers, and focusing on philanthropic work. She was a member of the KVPR (Valley Public Radio) board of directors for more than 30 years and enjoyed many years of pouring wine at the annual wine tasting.
The joy of Diane's life was her family. She was incredibly proud of her two grandsons and loved nothing more than to laugh with them. Diane and her daughter, Lisa, shared a very close relationship that only grew when Diane moved to CO in 2020. They talked daily and enjoyed endless shopping trips, their annual girls' trip to Cayucos, dinners out and so much more.
Diane was known for her fashionable style, generous spirit, sense of humor, kindness, and most importantly her love for family, friends and God. A devout Lutheran and woman of abiding faith, Diane was always striving to show acts of love and compassion to all.
An avid baker in retirement, Diane shared her delicious treats with many, including the staff at Hope House where Diane regularly volunteered. From pushing a stroller full of babies at Hope House to hiding dollar bills inscribed with 'Jesus loves you' for children to find hidden in the toys at the Dollar Store, Diane's servant heart knew no bounds. She was a passionate philanthropist giving of both her time and resources.
Diane is lovingly survived by her daughter Lisa (Brad) Boyer and her grandsons Jack and Heath Boyer. She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Iva Zander.
Reaching up, reaching in, and reaching out through God's love.
A celebration of Diane's life will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 10 a.m. at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Arvada (10001 W 58th Ave, Arvada, CO 80002). A reception will take place immediately after the service at Morningside Manor in Arvada (13251 W 64th Ave, Arvada, CO 80004).
