Lee Deffner Obituary
Lee Deffner of Littleton, Colorado passed away peacefully in his home on March 3, 2022 after a battle with cancer. His family and friends hold fond memories of him enjoying the outdoors, riding bikes, taking motorcycle adventures, playing music, creating art, and embracing all the magic that Colorado offered him. Lee was born May 8, 1954 in Littleton, Colorado to Vondeen Deffner Compton and Carrol Clark Deffner. He spent his childhood peddling his bike down Cedar Street in the summer or closing the street in the winter to join neighbors and his cousins for a day of sledding. His family moved to Texas when he was 13 years old, where he discovered a love of the ocean and surfing. Lee always had a longing to return "home" to his favorite state, Colorado. He returned to the mountain state and started a family in Bailey, where he raised a daughter and son. In 1972 Lee started pulling weeds at IREA (Intermountain Rural Electric Association), now CORE Electric Cooperative. Never one to quit easily, he worked his way from manual labor to completing a four-year apprenticeship program and becoming a Journeyman Lineman. Lee moved back to Littleton in 1997 and started a new partnership filled with travel, motorcycle road trips, tie-dye, laughter, and new creative inspiration. Lee is survived by his children, Natalie Moore of Buena Vista, CO and Russell Deffner of Manilla, Philippines; his life partner, Cindy Georger of Littleton, CO and her children, Sara Tice of Denver, CO and Richie Tice of Bailey, CO; his sister, Carol Riggs of Boulder, CO; and his four grandchildren. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Carrol Clark Deffner, Vondeen Deffner Compton, and his brother Dennis Deffner. May you continue to find Lee in your life as the wind brushes your face on a mountain top, in the smell of a pine tree, in the vibration of music that touches your soul, as the river tickles your toes, in the laughter of children, and in the sound of the birds. In honor of Lee, please join us for a celebration of life later in the year (details to be announced). In the meantime, celebrate his life by buying yourself a National Parks Pass or new guitar strings, playing your favorite song, riding your bike, taking a hike, drinking a glass of iced tea, smiling, or watching the sunset.
