Garfield Ellwood Thompson, Sr., passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 4:45am at his home in Louisville, CO.
Known by loved ones as "Pops" or "Gramps" Garfield was 79 years old, born May 22, 1932 in Willmer, Minnesota. He was one of 12 children. He married Edna Rickman in 1951 and settled in Louisville where they raised their five boys. Pops served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was later stationed in Casablanca, Africa. Pops is predeceased by his wife Edna.
He is survived by his sisters Marge and Elaine, his five sons; Garfield Ellwood, Jr. of Newport Beach, CA, Darryl "Douglas," Terry Allen, Keith Michael and Charles "Troy," all of Louisville, CO, 14 Grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Pops was a member of the Louisville Rod and Gun Club at Marshall Lake for 50 years, and he worked as a truck driver for Boulder-Denver Truck Lines for 37 years.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 14 at 2:00pm at Darrell Howe Mortuary, 1701 W. South Boulder Road in Lafayette, with graveside services immediately after at the Louisville Cemetery. The Thompson Family is hosting a reception after the services at the Louisville American Legion, 1100 Pine Street.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 - 2:00pm, prior to the service.
