HILDA CHRISTINE HAGEN
December 31, 1926 ˜ November 1, 2021
Hilda Christine Hagen was born Dec. 31, 1926, in Warwick County, IN. As the seventh of 12 children to Ewald and Christina Hein, she moved many times in her adolescence - finding residence with her family across Indiana, Minnesota, Oregon and finally Camas, WA, in 1945. She would remain in Camas until her death on All Saint’s Day - Monday, Nov. 1, 2021.
Growing up, she worked on the family farm and after graduating from Klickitat High School, she moved to Camas and found employment at the Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill. It was there she met her future husband, Art, whom she married in 1951 and remained married to for over 60 years until Art’s death in 2011.
There was nothing too large or too small for Hilda and her life can be described by the little things just as easily as the big ones. She loved watching the birds feed outside her window, watching baseball in the evening, and toiling for hours to finish puzzles. She was actively involved in the congregation at Saint Matthew’s Lutheran church in Washougal, WA, teaching Sunday school for many years. Hilda could always be counted on for two things: keeping a well-swept driveway and being always surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Nadia), Michael (Lynnette), David (Debra), Ronald (Kellie), and Gary (Shoko); as well as 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. They will miss her warm smile and never-waning laughter.
Hilda was preceded in her death by her husband, Arthur; parents, Ewald and Christine; and her siblings, Gus, Walt, Clarence, Frieda, Harold, Emma, Hugo, Martin, Erwin, Mildred, and Paul.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Camas Cemetery officiated by Pastor Barber of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Please sign her guest book at www.columbian.com/obits
