Virginia Jongeward Obituary
VIRGINIA ADOLF JONGEWARD
January 28, 1926 ˜ April 28, 2022
Virginia Adolf Jongeward passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on April 28. She was born at home Jan. 28, 1926, in the thriving metropolis of Bethune, CO. Her name remains firmly etched beneath the railroad tracks, but if you care to confirm please beware of the extremely protective owl that resides in that alcove. She later moved to Washington State with her family and graduated from Port Townsend High School in 1943.
She went on to attend Central Washington University, where she graduated with a degree in education. While studying at CWU, she met her future husband, Ray Jongeward. The couple married in 1947 and settled in the Vancouver, WA, area where both started their teaching careers.
Virginia and Ray were both active members of the First Presbyterian church in Vancouver, singing in the choir, ringers in the bell choir and also serving as deacons and elders. Virginia enjoyed donating her time to give to others and amongst other causes volunteered in the Vancouver school system well into her nineties.
Virginia loved to laugh, had unconditional love and warmth, and took delight in a good practical joke. She loved card games and taught all her grandchildren the finer arts of Court Whist, Bridge (for the adventurous), and countless other games and puzzles. She gleefully celebrated the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren (who called her GG).
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; and her son, Jay. She is survived by her children, Jan (Russ) Murphy, Jodee (Hal) Force, and John (Kim) Jongeward; five grandchildren, Colin (Malinda), Jacob (Mary), Zachary (Caroline), Ross, and Hailey; and three great-grandchildren, Addison, Jaxson, and Julian.
Memorial services to be held on May 21 at First Presbyterian Church Vancouver at 10:00 a.m.

My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. I think back on the memories I have of Virginia. She was a lovely lady, full of life. I loved her laugh. She loved to come into my office at 1st Presbyterian and chat with me. Always loved to let me know how her family was doing. She was a blessing. I am honored to have known her. God be with your family.
