SCHUYLER - Barbara E. Bieber, of Schuyler, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at First Presbyterian Church in Schuyler with the Rev. Laura Hollister officiating. Committal will be in the Schuyler Cemetery with lunch at the Church Fellowship Hall.
Visitation will be noon-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, with family present from 5-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Eastern Star Service at Kracl Funeral Chapel in Schuyler. Visitation continues one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Barbara was born April 25, 1939, in Sutton, to Edmund and Sara (Rauscher) Bitterman. She graduated from Sutton High School, earned an undergraduate degree from Doane College in Crete, a Master's Degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and an Early Childhood Endorsement from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont.
On March 24, 1973, she married Donn K. Bieber in Vail, Colo. They made their home in Schuyler. Barbara was a teacher for Lincoln Public Schools, a substitute teacher at Schuyler Elementary Schools and operated The Pre-School in Schuyler for many years.
She was a member of the church, Elder of the Session and later Clerk of the Session at First Presbyterian Church in Schuyler, Order of the Eastern Star, PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma, and a member of the Hispanic/Latino Commission of the Homestead Presbytery. Barbara was very active in the Schuyler community and loved to golf and care for her flowers.
She is survived by her husband, Donn of Schuyler; one daughter, Erika (Dan) Schafer of Lincoln; two grandsons, Daniel and Benjamin Schafer; one brother, Ronald (Karen) Bitterman of Hills City, S.D.; and two aunts, Frieda Dobler of Lincoln, Sophia (Lawrence) Trautman of Sutton, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Eastern Star Home for Children in Fremont or the Schuyler Library Foundation.
